Passive Perineal Rehabilitation course

Passive Perineal Rehabilitation course

Passive Perineal Rehabilitation is an advanced course that addresses the passive techniques used in the treatment of pelvic floor disorders (in men and women) indicated for physical therapists who already have experience in urogynecology and who have already taken the APR course.

Unlike active techniques, which aim at global neuromuscular rehabilitation, passive techniques are used to achieve specific goals: stretching the pelvic floor muscles; treatment of scars, adhesions and fibrosis; desensitization; treatment of pain and tension points; the use of orthoses in urogynecology and vacuum pumps.

To promote muscle stretching, we use perineal massage, which is a manual technique; and the balloon, an instrument developed specifically for this purpose. They are usually used to prepare a woman who wants a vaginal delivery (avoiding episiotomy), in pelvic pain and some cases in dyspareunia.

Episiotomy, laceration, cesarean section, or other pelvic surgeries leave scars that can cause pain and discomfort; scar massage and cutaneous desensitization instruments are very important in these cases. These skin desensitization instruments can also be used in cases of dermal hypersensitivities, such as vulvodynia.

In the inhibitory techniques of electrostimulation, we use TENS to relieve menstrual pain, pain from labour contractions and pelvic pain. Neuromodulation is indicated in cases of the hyperactive or hypoactive bladder.

Pessaries are a kind of orthosis that can be an option for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapses, especially for those patients who, due to other conditions, cannot undergo surgery. These instruments can also be indicated in the adjunctive treatment of urinary incontinence.

Vaginal dilators are indicated for patients with vaginismus, vaginal canal atresia and neo-vaginas. In this course, we will see how to approach the patient, and gain her trust to carry out the treatment.

Vacuum pumps are an important instrument for increasing blood circulation, and improving erection, either of the penis or the clitoris.

During the course, the student will have the opportunity to share knowledge directly with Dr Laira Ramos, a professional who has more than 15 years of experience dedicated exclusively to Urogynecological Physiotherapy, understanding the theory and practice of each technique used.

You will also have the privilege of having access to everything she offers to her patients in her clinical practice, obtaining quick results and with a great positive impact on quality of life, leading to increased autonomy, self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • Correctly perform perineal stretching using perineal massage and stretching balloon
  • Understand the importance of the vaginal dilator and the best way to use it
  • Understand the treatment of scars and adhesion with scar massage and vibration
  • Normalize sensitivity with desensitizers
  • Have a broader view of electrotherapy in neuromodulation and analgesia
  • Understand the indications and prescription of pessaries
  • Understand the facts and use of the vacuum pump (clitoral and penile) to improve erection
  • Appropriately indicate home exercises so that patients adhere
  • Know how to set up and manage the urogynecological physiotherapy service to attract more patients

trainer :

Dr. Laira Ramos http://www.perineo.info/quem-somos/laira-ramos/

She chose the field of urogynecology at the beginning of the physiotherapy faculty and, since then, she has been involved in internships and training in the field. Her father and sister, both gynaecologists, had a great influence on her career, always encouraging her.

After graduation, he dedicated himself exclusively to perineal rehabilitation and continuously updated himself to offer the best treatment to his patients. This passion for the area led her to develop the Active & Series Perineal Rehabilitation concept.

As perineal rehabilitation is still a little-known treatment, lectures are held to publicize these treatments, making them more accessible to the population.

It also provides training and consultancy to physical therapists teaching them how to work with their techniques.
