Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious traumas caused by vaginal childbirth. This condition usually leads to urinary incontinence in women, and consequently, social isolation. These women suffer from severe depression, social isolation, and extreme poverty. In Mozambique alone, it is estimated that around 2,300 new cases occur annually, of which only 500 require treatment.
This is a humanitarian project for a medical expedition in Mozambique, bringing treatment and sex education to women suffering from fistula in the interior of the country. We are 14 professionals volunteering for a 10-day trip with 4 main objectives:
Focus Fistula is a non-governmental organization that for 3 years has been fighting to restore dignity to hundreds of women in various regions of the country, promoting treatment for women and training local professionals. It has the support of governments, organizations, and internationally renowned professionals, and this support helps to make dreams come true.
During these 10 days of the expedition, all volunteers will be wearing customized t-shirts identifying the project sponsors. After the trip, we will try to negotiate the documentary with a streaming channel such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, or another. Sponsors will have prominent placement in the documentary credits.
